Happy Father's Day

June 15, 2008 - David Uth

Deuteronomy 6:1-21

Two Truths
1. Love God - with all your heart, soul, and strength.
Keep God's commands because you love Him. More than anything else it starts with the heart that loves God

2. The Home - This is where children learn about God. The father is the leader of the home. We depend too much on the church to teach children. Children's programs at church were never intended to be the primary source of knowledge about God. It is the father's responsibility to lead the family to God.

Here are some statistics that father's can influence:
- 4% of teenagers believe in God.
- 70% of students drop out of church after high school.
- By age 29, 50% of the 70% come back to church.

Children without a father's influence are:
- 5 times more likely to take their own life
- 9 times more likely to drop out of school
- 10 times more likely to take drugs
- 16 times more likely to get pregnant
- 20 times more likely to be in prison

Assumptions to live out Truths:
1. We love God
2. Deuteronomy 6:7, You do!
Take the time to teach children about God. Use everyday, normal situations to teach. Sit down, lay down with children--share with them God's love. Don't miss out on those moments.
