Matthew 26:47-56
What do you do when life doesn't go your way?
The world says - fight! Strong arm your way thru this situation.
The worst mistakes are not about your decisions it is about your reaction. Chuck Swindoll says "Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it."
What is your first response? To try and save the day? Life is unfair and life will break your heart. Do you say, "I am going to fix this?" Do you draw your sword like Peter did?
Swords come in all shapes and sizes. The great sword we have is our tongue. Others include our authority, and unforgiveness. We try to use our power to get back at people or use the silent treatment or cold shoulders. What is the result? Someone gets hurt.
Peter cut off the servants ear and Jesus put it back on-He healed his wound. Isn't it just like Jesus to come in and clean up our mess?
There are 3 things that Jesus teaches us about how to handle things when life dosen't go our way:
1. Practical, Matt 26:52
- If all you know is fighting you will eventually run in to someone bigger and they will kill you
- Holding a grudge or being angry never accomplishes right - you do nothing but hurt yourself. It is like drinking poison and expecting the other person involved to die.
2. Power, Matt 26:53
- Have we forgotten how powerful God is?
- 72,000 Angels = 3 Legions
- God doesn't need your sword
- We try Him with our eternity but not with our Tuesday?
3. Plan, Matt 26:54
- Peter fought against the plan, the prophesy
- Your circumstance could be a part of God's plan
- God uses people that annoy you and drive you nuts to make you more like Him
- He teaches us how to love like Jesus loves
There are 3 Options for dealing with circumstances:
1. Fight - like Peter
2. Flee - like the disciples
3. Faith - Trust God, let God work through the circumstances in your life
